Games to teach adjectives

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a kingdom where everyone lived happily. The king and queen loved their children and spent lots of time with them. Now, here’s something special about the king – he knew a few magic tricks, and his children loved them. Can you guess how many children they had? Well, they had 26 children, and it’s quite funny – they named them after letters of the alphabet, like A, B, C, and so on.

One sunny day, the king was playing with his children. The little ones begged, “Papa, show us some magic, please!”

The king thought of making a mini castle and guess what he did…he told them he would cast a magic spell and turn them into bricks and build a castle out of them. He called out to A but guess what? A was missing! The king thought maybe she would come back soon, and he cast a spell on B – “Wibble, wobble, chuckle, and wiggle, turn B into a brick with a giggle!” And right in front of everyone’s eyes, B was a brick now. Again, let’s do it with C with the king- “Wibble wobble, chuckle, and wiggle, turn C into a brick with a giggle!” Now, repeat with D…. The children giggled as they turned into bricks, one by one.

But the king noticed something wasn’t right. A few of his children were missing: A, E, I, O, and U. Worried, he sent soldiers to find them.

After a while, the soldiers returned with news. The missing kids were playing in the forest! But they didn’t want to come back. They had made friends with someone new named “An.”

The king went to the forest to call his children but A, E, I, O, and U refused to come, saying that they wanted to play with their new friend “An”. They wanted An to live with them. The king agreed and from that day on, An became part of their family, and wherever A, E, I, O, or U went, An was always with them.

Post Story Notes:

  1. Make flashcards of A, E, I, O, U, and An and put them up on the wall or board using a Glue tag so that they get highlighted in the story.
  2. If you want to add some more fun to the story, you can bring some props like a Crown for the king or tie a dupatta to transform yourself into a king by tying it around the neck as a cape. You may hold a pencil, ruler, or stick as a wand to cast a spell. These little things make the telling more magical
  3. You may memorize the story or you may read it aloud. It’s your choice. Keep gestures, expressions, and voice modulation in mind even when you are reading aloud. That’s the only way to make the story engaging.
  4. Make the children repeat the magical chant. They would love it.
  5. I have introduced vowels and Article An. You may talk about Article A and The too here. It’s not important to introduce everything through a story. This story will warm the students to the concept of AN and Vowels and thereon they will be quite receptive to A and The.
